It isn't suprising then to hear 199QUERY has helped many answer questions on their faith. We bring you an interesting 2am discussion with one of our clients on the omnipotence of God...
Q. thanks, so now that I have faith in you... Can God create a rock that he can't lift?A. This is a classic psuedo-question & presumes God is 2 entities- God can not be more powerful than himself. Thus No, he can't make a rock that he can't lift.
Q. Could God think of a time when he wasn't omnipotent then?A. An omnipotent God by definition can transcend the laws of physics and probability as well as logical truths. So Yes, Yes he could.
Q. But god was always omnipotent so then how could he? That means he wasn't always a god... So what was he?A. Not quite. An omnipotent entity is by definition "all powerful & knowing" thus can conjure any thought - including that of not being omnipotent!
Q. Therefore can he remember a time when he was omnipotent?A. (We assume you mean "wasn't") The all knowing omnipotent entity who transcends logic laws could conjure a memory of a time when he wasn't omnipotent.
Q. How could he remember something that wasn't true?A. Imagination is not a lie - By conjuring a thought or memory through imagination one is not creating an event which did not occur.
Q. I agree!A. Thankyou! :) Interestingly, the concept of Mathematical Infinity & thus infinitesimal calculus resulted from discussions like these in the High Middle Ages.
